Laundry room and mudroom floors take a battering unlike any other floor in your house. They are frequently exposed to moisture, the detergents, the soap, bleach, and other harsh substances. If your laundry room is located in the mudroom, then it's also exposed to dirt, mud, and wet umbrellas. Add to it the occasional damages to plumbing, appliance leakages, and wear from the movement of appliances, and you have the perfect recipe for fast-exacerbating damage to flooring.
Naturally, function precedes form for these rooms. But who says that you have to compromise form in favor of function?
